US President Donald Trump has said he is taking hydroxychloroquine to ward off coronavirus, even though health officials have warned it may be unsafe.

Speaking at the White House, he told reporters he started taking the malaria and lupus medication recently.

“I’m taking it for about a week and a half now and I’m still here, I’m still here,” was his surprise announcement.

There is no evidence hydroxychloroquine can fight off coronavirus, though clinical trials are under way.

  1. BREAKING NEWS: During late Mar-20 there were talks about possible benefits of hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19 patients. White House on 30-Apr-20 unfollowed Indian Prime Minister on Twitter, because India did not remove ban on Indian export of hydroxychloroquine. As a response, India immediately removed the ban and exported 50 million hydroxychloroquine tablets to U.S. companies, close to Trump.

Trumpโ€™s advertisement of hydroxychloroquine, was to get these hydroxychloroquine sold as the imports were by his closed companies.

  2. Could care less what you think. Worry about the adulterers Charles and Andrew. Worry about that idiot Harry. Your nation has better things to pontificate about.

On 17 March 2020, the AIFA Scientific Technical Commission of the Italian Medicines Agency expressed a favorable opinion on including the off-label use of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine for the treatment of COVIDโ€‘19.[44]

In the US, several state pharmacy boards reported that some doctors and dentists were writing prescriptions for hydroxychloroquine and a related drug, chloroquine, to themselves, family members, and staff.[45][46] Sudden demand spikes caused by hospital use for severely ill COVIDโ€‘19 patients and prescriptions for prophylaxis have resulted in shortages; doctors have expressed concern that patients who have long taken hydroxychloroquine for other approved indications, like lupus and rheumatoid arthritis, will be unable to procure needed medicine.[46][47]

On 28 March 2020, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) to allow hydroxychloroquine sulfate and chloroquine phosphate products donated to the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) to be distributed and used for certain people who are hospitalized with COVIDโ€‘19.[48][49]

In anticipation of product shortages, the FDA issued product-specific guidance for chloroquine phosphate and for hydroxychloroquine sulfate for generic drug manufacturers.[50] The combination of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin is not recommended outside the context of a clinical trial due to safety concerns with this combination and no proven benefit to combining these medications.[3]

During a press briefing on March 19, 2020; Donald Trump, the President of the United States, promoted the drugs chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine as a potential treatment for COVIDโ€‘19.[51][52] Trump claimed that chloroquine had been FDA "approved very, very quickly" as a treatment for COVIDโ€‘19. The FDA later disavowed such approval,[53] but was now allowing chloroquine under compassionate use guidelines.[54][55] Trump's remarks led to a shortage of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine in the United States and panic-buying in Africa and South Asia.[56][57]

In the state of Arizona, a man died, leaving his wife in critical condition, as a result of ingesting a product containing chloroquine phosphate designed for treating sick fish. The couple believed the fish treatment could prevent them from contracting COVIDโ€‘19. HIS WIFE HAD A HISTORY OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND IS NOW BEING INVESTIGATED FOR THE MURDER OF HER OWN HUSBAND FOR GIVING HIM FISK TANK CLEANER.
Chloroquine phosphate, used for the treatment of fish parasites and infections, has a different chemical structure than the medicines Chloroquine and Hydroxychloroquine.[58][59]

On 18 May 2020, Trump publicly stated that he was taking hydroxychloroquine combined with zinc and an initial dose of azithromycin during the COVID-19 pandemic[60], despite some evidence indicating that it is "linked to higher rates of death in hospitalized COVID-19 patients with pre-existing conditions", and other studies that show it to be ineffective.[61]

  4. What These effing boneheads are not telling you, is all the pre-existing conditions those people had.Thousands of doctors have prescribed the drug to millions of people only to heal.
