The number of people infected by the coronavirus in the UK has doubled to eight – after four more patients in England tested positive for the virus.

It comes as the government announced new powers to keep people in quarantine to stop the spread of the virus.

In order to do this the Department of Health has described the coronavirus as a “serious and imminent threat” to public health.

The overall risk level to the UK remains “moderate”.

There have been more than 40,000 cases of the virus globally, mostly in China. The total number of deaths in China is now 908 – but the number of newly-infected people per day has stabilised.

  1. I just want to point out that even Mr. Walsh, the so called "super spreader", had almost ZERO symptoms during his trip. He called the NHS because he had contact with one person who is now confirmed. So it is not possible for people to tell who is infected. Also, many people like Steve, just experienced "mild symptoms", while spreading the virus to other people, yet for whom, it could be lethal. Again, you never know whether you are the lucky ones or not. Word of advice: WEAR MASKS AND TRY TO STAY AT HOME!

  2. Quarantine must to be matadory in the UK, is it not a choice, it is for the health and safety of the population. What they are talking about? They are not happy to be in quarantine? Force them. Other European countries stopped the flight from e to China weeks ago and the quarantine is mandatory. In italy the government used a village that is owed by the army as place for the quarantine. There are 60 people monitored 24h. Unfortunately one of this people during the quarantine found out that he was infected, imagine if he wasnt in quarantine what would happened, he would spread the virus everywhere. Please, UK government take this matter seriously as other countries do.

  3. 1000 death? Really? Only when the chinese say the truth. If not, it could be 10.000 as well as 100.000 death. Or why do they lock all their people in so many cities in the houses? During SARS, they closed the shools and discotheks. Now they lock up everybody, and death bodies are lying around in the streets and especially in the hospitals. The chinese wouldnt shut their entire country if there were only 1.000 people dead. That would be hillarious. And it wouldnt be possible to make those videos with all the dead bodies in the hospitals. The number is probably higher. Far higher.

  4. It is now airbourne, it is "aerosolized" which means it is airbourne to and from a certain distance, Im not sure how big this distance is as they are talking crap and they arent giving us all the info. I'm not underestimating this virus I have a young child and suggest others dont either, not suggesting to panic but do what you think is right for you and your families, keep an eye on numbers and where its spreading to. I had an email from my sons school yesterday saying that they have it under control, it was a message from the government, but if I remember rightly they said this when it first broke out and every country has said "weve got it under control" since, they havent got it under control…whether on purpose, or as to not cause a panic they definately havent got it under control so just do what is best for you, I dont believe any of what they are telling us anymore, since this email the government have now said it is now a serious and imminent threat to the uk public and what concerns me is places like hospitals and schools and workplaces and shopping precincts where there are loads of people at once all close together and if it's gone partially airbourne now does this effect anything being shipped to us from different countries?, food?, toys (majority come from china?) They havent got it under control and this much is clear now, I think people are idylly just thinking that this is going to pass and are believing what the media tell them and that's another concern too, yes panic isn't the answer but just keep an eye on the numbers and areas and then do what is best for you and your families, I mean that seriously, look out for yourselves, if schools are still saying it's safe for your kids to attend but you are seeing it spread closer to where you are and in bigger numbers nobody is going to look after you and your kids like you can yourselves so pull them out of school and take precautions, I will abide by the law when it isnt ignorant but otherwise nah I'm looking out for me and my own x
