Dramatic siege conclusion seen from Seven News studios – Daily Mail

After almost 17 long and terrifying hours the Sydney siege came to a dramatic end as police were forced to storm the Lindt cafe after hearing gunfire from inside. The lone gunman was shot and killed just minutes after a number of hostages ran from the Lindt cafe, their hands held high above their heads. At 2.03am, one man (centre) emerged with his hands up and lay down on the ground in front of police. Seconds later, five more hostages (left) escaped via a side door of the café in Martin Place, central Sydney. The three men and two women ran out of the building where they had been held by an armed man – self-described cleric Man Haron Monis – since before 10am on Monday. Armed police then stormed the cafe (right) with rapid gunfire and stun grenades after hearing shots from inside. They later escorted the remaining hostages from the building.
