Scottish deerstalker Niall Rowantree is in New Zealand to deal with a local pest problem. Wallabies and possums, imported from Australia and released, are wreaking havoc on the islands. He shows what a problem agricultural pests can be. Plus we find out the latest on the general licences debacle: Natural England has banned the shooting of pigeons and crows. What are BASC and the Countryside Alliance doing about it? And Charlie is off to meet a shoot tailor. Justin Block explains the right choice of tweed and the correct cut for the proper gamshooting look. Plus the rest of the News Stump and Hunting YouTube in this week’s #FieldsportsBritain

  1. you guys are screwed. your police and government are controlled by an imported religion, and the brit's are powerless to stop anything without being jailed for trying to have a voice. reclaim your land and heritage. kick out the trouble makers and animal rights nut bags.

  2. I’ve gone off Chris packham , I’m a keen angler , I know packhams not a fan of fishing , probably target that next , I enjoy wildlife , do a lot of bird watching , I have no problem people shooting corvids , I hate magpies in my garden when birds are nesting. Pigeons are agricultural pests do a lot of damage to crops , Packhams lost the plot

  3. Once again the hunting weirdos use the word “control” to justify killing things lol. Thank god for Chris Packham and other compassionate well balanced real men who don’t need to kill to get their peckers hard. And this isn’t a Country Vs City thing, my family has lived in the country for
4 generations and I don’t feel the need to shoot stuff, the same old bull comes out of your mouths time and time again.

  4. Wallabies and Roos have no natural predator in Australia let alone NZ. We have passed a law now that the cull on Roos will continue to supply the pet food market creating a stronger industry for Roo shooters, butchers and logistics trucking, not to mention the end product profits. Great episode chaps. ATB Moose

  5. Fantastic show as usual. People like Packham are very mistaken in their ideas. If they keep up having stuff banned farmers are going to go out of business and then where would they obtain their vegetable food stuffs. Thanks for the show and keep up the good fight.

  6. I would like to know how one or two people can ban something without a hearing ,thats not democratic ,the Conservatives are are supposed to be Country friendly ,this is something Labour would have sneaked in ,I would never vote for them again . Packham should be sacked from spring watch as he is no longer impartial , not that he ever was ,and as pointed out he is a hypocrite. If this is not resolved all our shooting will be gone thats for sure ,B A S C are as much use a sandpaper dildo anyway .

  7. What a governmental cock-up.

Yet, as a passionate hunter, Biologist and European, I am kind of pleased that the practice of general licenses for spring-time shooting of birds gets an overhaul. Even Pest control needs to be handled with care during nesting season and pest control is best done in the autumn before, much like fire prevention is much preferable over fire fighting (though both can be necessary and need to be possible). Furthermore, the EU directive does make sense (to quite some degree) in regards of migratory birds. They need to be monitored in a wider geographical context beyond national borders and especially England has done f*** all to contribute to this. Other European countries have found better ways to implement spring shooting and pest control for birds and I for one am happy, if England is doing a step towards that. But please not in an idiotic way like this…

  8. Great edition this week, Thanks you.
But that news on not allowing the destruction of vermin like pigeons and crows is rather disturbing , to say the least. All that caused by one nut case???
Oh, I nearly forgot;…those are really great looking suits,…I wish I could be there for a fitting and purchase.

  9. A great shame then, that we have just had semi auto centrefires banned as the vermin/pest species proliferate. Even farmers have been told to use pro vermin controllers instead of being able to do it themselves or use friendly shooters to help out

  10. Antis and tree huggers don’t be fooled by Chris Packham look at the bigger picture he has his eye on number 10 Downing Street he doesn’t give two f…s about the countryside or wildlife.

  11. Keep on fighting against ignorance and false green feelings of people who live in big cities and buy their meat in plastic bags. They try to get back to nature with no knowledge about it.

  12. well i might aswell stop looking for my first permission then ?, shooter as a whole must be able to do something about this, to counteract this ban, there must be hundreds of thousands of us, we as one voice must be able to do something to counteract this. or has it been said what we can do am i missing something?

  13. Shame to see you perpetuate the outright lie that possums predate on native birds and spread bovine TB. Former MP Richard Prosser revealed in the House of commons that none of the 9838 possums autopsied in New Zealand the previous year had Tb, and only 54 possums from 124,213 autopsied over nine years had the disease. NZ South Island is essentially TB free except for one herd on Molesworth Station which, incidentally, is run by the Department of Conservation. What little bovine TB there is in New Zealand is spread by stock trucks NOT possums.

  14. Aren't the red deer (or all of them for that matter) an invasive species in New Zealand also? I thought they did a lot of damage to the native plants over there? Seems crazy shooting one pest to help another but looks like the place is crawling with them. Looks an awesome country though, would love to visit some day
