Moment bomb squad detonate World War II explosive in Portsmouth – Daily Mail

A German SC250 bomb weighing 500lb and carrying 290lb of explosives was found in Portsmouth Harbour this morning during dredging work for the arrival of HMS Queen Elizabeth. Trains and ferries were cancelled and some shops evacuated while Royal Navy divers dealt with the incident. The bomb has since been moved to a safe place. Although it is old, the devices can still pose a serious threat and those living nearby were told to stay inside, open their windows and stay away from outer walls. Just a few days ago, a British munition was found in the Harbour, though it is not known how it would have come to be there. Left, the bomb being detonated, right top, the bomb, and right bottom, the navy crew leaving the Harbour with the bomb.
